A space of their own to navigate the challenges of growing up
Adolescence is a time of great changes — in body, relationships, and identity. A safe and confidential therapeutic space can make all the difference.
What does teen therapy involve?
Teen therapy is a confidential space where young people ages 13 to 19 can talk freely about what they're experiencing, without judgment and without it being shared with their parents (except in risk situations).
Unlike child therapy, conversation is the main tool here. But we also use creative resources — writing, music, art — when words aren't enough.
I work a lot with the question "who do you want to be?" rather than "what's wrong with you?" The narrative approach helps teens build their own identity, separate from the labels others put on them.
Signs your teen might benefit
- Isolation or drastic change in social circle
- Sudden mood swings or constant irritability
- Drop in school performance
- Frequent conflicts at home
- Signs of anxiety, deep sadness, or hopelessness
- Body image or eating concerns
- Excessive screen use as emotional escape
- Difficulty handling social pressure or bullying
My approach with teens
The most important thing is for the teen to feel this is THEIR space. I'm not an extension of their parents. I'm an adult who listens without judgment and accompanies them in finding their own answers.
I work with a narrative approach: I help teens identify the dominant stories that limit them ("I'm a failure," "I don't fit in") and discover alternative stories that reflect who they really are and who they want to be.
I also include periodic sessions with parents to keep communication open, always respecting the teen's confidentiality.
