Self-assessment tool

Burnout Test (Copenhagen Burnout Inventory)

This test uses the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI), a free-to-use questionnaire developed by Danish researchers to measure physical and emotional exhaustion. It has two parts: personal burnout and work-related burnout.

This test is a self-assessment tool, not a clinical diagnosis. Results do not replace evaluation by a mental health professional. If exhaustion is affecting your daily life, I encourage you to seek therapeutic support.

Choose the answer that best describes how you feel. There are no right or wrong answers.

Part 1 · Personal burnout

Think about how you feel in general.

1 How often do you feel tired?

2 How often are you physically exhausted?

3 How often are you emotionally exhausted?

4 How often do you think: "I can't take it anymore"?

5 How often do you feel worn out?

6 How often do you feel weak and susceptible to illness?

Part 2 · Work-related burnout

Now think about your current work.

1 Is your work emotionally exhausting?

2 Do you feel burnt out because of your work?

3 Does your work frustrate you?

4 Do you feel worn out at the end of the working day?

5 Are you exhausted in the morning at the thought of another day at work?

6 Do you feel that every working hour is tiring for you?

7 Do you have enough energy for family and friends during leisure time?

How is it scored?

Each answer is worth 0, 25, 50, 75, or 100 points, and each part's score is the average of its questions (0 to 100). The original scale sets no clinical cut-offs; here we use the ranges most common in research: under 50, low; 50 to 74, moderate; 75 or more, high.
